It was with trepidation ...
... that I stepped out into the garden this afternoon. What, with all this near-constant rain, I was fearful the tomato crop had zombiefied, like it did last year.
Last year I thought the problem was I put them in too late.
So they went in much earlier this year.
It's rained almost every day now for well over a week, perhaps 2, so things did not bode well.
However, fingers crossed, these little beauties are a sign of good things to come.

Panicing about bees ...
... the lack of them, I just don't see bees anymore.
No bees means no tomatoes or lemons or limes or pomegranates.
Mr Brown & I have always had some flowers in the garden, many neighbours don't.
I suspect they are considered "untidy".
Still, we've been adding flowers here and there in a desperate attempt to bring on the bees.
We've even let the herbs go straight to flower/seed, rather than pick of the first flush or two of flowers, because I read that bees like herb flowers.
I don't know if bees like Solomon's Seal.
But this little fellow does.
This is the new double dragon wisteria, it won't be bee-attracting this year, but look at it go!
That's about three-weeks from being a stick in the ground.
This afternoon, before the massive rainstorm, I spotted these. Perhaps we get a few bee visits while we're at work.

Art for the office of a very busy & important Mr Brown ...
... to keep his head small enough to fit through his office door at least.
We took it in and hung it on the wall this afternoon. Then I took some fancy pens and post it notes from the desk drawer (left over from the last office inhabitant, now commonly referred to as "the arse-hole") and we came home in the pouring rain.

Zombie tomatoes ...
... it's been raining for near-on 40 days and 40 nights now.
Well, almost, long enough for it to feel like it'll never stop.
The humidity is in the 80s, the high 80s, most days. Everything is slightly damp, or sticky. My bare feet stick to the floors. If we didn't have a heated towel rail we'd be mopping ourselves off with damp towels in the morning.
The house looks like a laundry, since I can't dry anything outside. Even the inside-dried stuff never feels really, dry. Not that lovely sun-crisped dry you (well I) look for in my washing.
And to top it off, the rain's brought out the snails, slugs and rain-borne zombie-flesh diseases, all landing on our lovely tomato crop.
Our not-so-lovely tomato crop.
It's my fault, I planted late, we should just be harvesting the stragglers now.
Instead the glut, so eagerly anticipated, is just rotting on the vine.
I'm marking the calendar for next time.
I intend for us to be eating the glut as a celebration of the new year, next year.

Sometimes the rain ...
... which has been pretty much non-stop for days and days now, leading to life-force sapping 80+% humidity, makes something beautiful.
I give you a teeny wee drop of rain, balanced on the antenna of a blue banded bee.
Lovely, non?

I think they like it here ...
... I got home with just enough light to catch this.
Ten little blue banded bees all in a row.
This totally makes up for those ghastly, stringy, pink-flower bushes attacking me every morning.
As you can see, they changed spots during the "shoot", some of that wild leg waving ensued.
Edited to add - It's piss-bucketing down rain outside, so I popped out to see how the little fellas were doing. Still clinging to the plant, soaking wet poor poppets. So I've carefully manoeuvred the tendril so it's under the porch roof, out of the rain. I do hope they'll be ok.

Edited to add AGAIN - O my, o my, my pic got retweeded by Mr Firstdogonthemoon! I am most cuffed I must say.

Boring ...
... today was hot, very, very, very, hot.
Both cats and I stayed in the bedroom most of the day, with Pinguino, who is cool, very cool.
Mr Brown watched tennis until it got too hot, and then he joined us.
Now he's outside, dancing in the rain (well, sort of).

It is ...
... absolutely PISS BUCKETING DOWN - temp dropping too and there's a cool breeze wafting through the house.

Poor wee poppet ...
... it's been raining pretty much non-stop for the past couple of days *sighs*.
AND it's been bloody cold too boot, so I've not really felt like standing out in the rain under an umbrella hand-feeding a possum.
But I couldn't NOT feed him. So I've been preparing little bowls of delicious fruits and veggies and leaving them out on the arbor seat.
This this evening it was apple, carrot, capsicum and tomato.
Of course, because of the cold, I'm wondering out loud if Mr Possum would appreciate some nice hot porridge.
I know he's been coming down for the snackies, because the dish is "empty like an ... empty thing" as Mr Brown announced the other morning (he's not at his best first thing, bless).
Also, I've spotted him out the window and dashed out into the rain to say hello.
I'm pathetic, I know.
And THIS is why you don't mess with Mr Poss.

On armpits ...
Back when we moved to Sydney, eight or so years ago, February was always a very wet, warm and humid month. It would rain for days and days and the soupy humidity would make the whole house feels slightly sticky, tacky. The air was thick with moisture and rain storms were common. The TV news always had a filler story with footage of city workers fighting umbrellas and running through sheeting rain. The moisture factor led us to buying a heated towel rack, because it was the only way we could have dry towels for the morning ablutions. We really only ever used it in February. February was also the only time it was necessary to make the occasional trip to a launderette, to use a dryer and ensure a supply of knickers and socks!
Living through February was like living, crushed in the armpit of a big, sweaty, hairy beast. And so, I named February the armpit month.
For the last couple of years February hasn’t been particularly armpitty, hot, humid but not accompanied by unrelenting rain. The drought I guess.
This year, the armpit month is back, in all its dank glory. I’m waiting for the towel rail to work its magic right now, as I type and pootle round the interwebs.
Still, nice for ducks eh?

It is raining ...
... and raining, and raining. I can't believe how much water is falling from the sky.
Anyhoo, since the Brown-Mouse telecommunications lines suffer from the paddy-field effect at times like these, I may be off line for a bit.
Then again, since it is a rather unpredictable phenomenon , I may not.

Bastards in suits ...
... this evening, about 7pm, I'm heading home from the CBD (because that's where I work as it happens). It was, in the vernacular, pissing down. Taxis were in short supply and high demand. But I gave it ago, not wanting to be schlepping up a hill home, in the rain, with one of those silly fold-up umbrellas, in $300 shoes.
I spot one on Park St, just before George St, vacant light aglow in the darkening evening. I put out my arm, Mr Taxi driver indicates and pulls in.
"Bingo" think I, "I'll be home in time for FridaynightcrimeontheABC". But NO. Some arrogant little shit in a pin-striped suit and a Tin Tin haircut actually pushes me aside and leaps in. The fucker stole my taxi!
Somehow, I just get the feeling that wouldn't have happened if I'd been 22 and wearing a short red dress.

I'm sitting here with Ping in my lap ...
... listening to the thunder rolling in.
Watching the clear blue sky go grey with rain clouds.
Feeling the temperature slowly drop.
Smelling rain in the hot air.
Hearing the faint "clicks" of a long, old house cooling down.
.
.
.
Mmmmmm, those tentative first drops of a storm are coming down. Sweet relief.

I was up at 6 this morning ...
... no hangover (thank goodness) but wide awake & restless. I checked the weather, pissing down, grey, gloomy, 1 million% humidity. Yuck.
2 hours later - sunshine, blue(ish) skies. I think it's going to be a lovely day.
