Blue Moon ...

... I’m a big fan of the moon, it's my favouite thing in the sky. S0 I'm a little (nerdily) excited because tonight there will be a full moon, the second one for June, a blue moon.A picture of the Moon made to look blue, image & image fiddling thanks to Nick Lomb
In honour of this rare event (there isn’t another until 30 March 2010), I’m adding a new linkie to my Interesting & Possibly Useful Stuff thingo, a moon phase calendar.

And, because it's the last day of the month, the June 2007 WordCloud.

Edited to add - There she is in her full moon glory - so bright that I got one of those "bright spots" in my eye after staring up.

Moon stuff ...

... tonight is a new moon, it's 5:55pm and pitch black outside.
It turns out I was born on the night of a new moon.
I don't believe this is significant, just vaguely interesting.
There was a great moon hoax in 1835.
The Whole of the Moon by the Waterboys, is one of my favourite songs EVER.

You are The Moon

Hope, expectation, Bright promises.
The Moon is a card of magic and mystery - when prominent you know that nothing is as it seems, particularly when it concerns relationships. All logic is thrown out the window.
The Moon is all about visions and illusions, madness, genius and poetry. This is a card that has to do with sleep, and so with both dreams and nightmares. It is a scary card in that it warns that there might be hidden enemies, tricks and falsehoods. But it should also be remembered that this is a card of great creativity, of powerful magic, primal feelings and intuition. You may be going through a time of emotional and mental trial; if you have any past mental problems, you must be vigilant in taking your medication but avoid drugs or alcohol, as abuse of either will cause them irreparable damage. This time however, can also result in great creativity, psychic powers, visions and insight. You can and should trust your intuition.
What Tarot Card are You?

The interwebs ...

... makes impulse buying too damn easy. Earlier this week it was a Munch inflatable Scream Doll and 6 violently expensive (but beautiful) volumes from Persephone Books.
And a couple more books at the Art Gallery while I was waiting for Mr Brown to pick me up.This is from When the Moon Forgot by Jimmy Liao. Lovely thought, no? Cradling a young and frightened moon in your arms?
But I will not succumb this time, will not.

Over the moon ...

... Mr Brown bought Over the Moon milk at the markets today, instead of crossing the road to the corner shop and getting his usual choice, nasty low-fat crap.
The coffee he made with it this morning was the best he's ever made. It was almost a dessert!
Not only is it made by happy cows that get to eat grass, in paddocks. It is made by the most beautiful of all cows, the jersey cow.
He got butter too - I'm looking forward to tomorrow's toast more than a sensible girl should.

A Dancing Ogre Summon ...

... makes me sound a little demonic.
I quite like A Nomadic Monger Snug too. But that's because I cannot resist the word Mong!
A Command Ignore Gnus, with an appropriate comma, could be useful in a stampede.
A Candor Gnome Musing appeals with its whimsy.
A Screaming Dung Moon is a goodun, I like new moon descriptors.
A Ocean Drumming Song is just too new age-y for me.
A Caging Demon Mourns is a bit sad.
What do you get?

Edited to add ...

... Mr Brown (shamed) fixed the puter so, here's Wednesday night's pizza. And, on Tuesday I watched the blood moon lunar eclipse. With only my happy snappy camera, I'm afraid my efforts at recording the event were pretty pathetic. I mean, once the moon was red there wasn't enough light to take a pic at all. So, go look here for some good stuff, and then laugh at my efforts. Cheers.

Finally ...

... now it really is Autumn, not just by the calender but by the moon.

Friday, July 10

It's my mum's birthday on Sunday ...

... Sunday is also the official date for my sister to start howling at the moon and bringing forth loin fruit.
Busy weekend all round then! Fingers crossed.

Edited to add - just to clarify, the sister is waiting to do her wild-womanly thing about 1000km away - the mother is flying up the day after her birthday, with fingers crossed the birthing day is as miscalculated as most are! I'm told this due-date thing is not an exact science.

It just gets better and better ...

... it's a full moon tonight.

Another of those blogs I lurk at ...

... Changes its name so often I think I'll just provide the link.
Anyhoo, a recent post reminded me of a song I've sung in the shower for ever and ever, while never knowing the last line.
Thanks to the Rev Dave (Rtd) now I do, it's "Give you a night dipped in moon shine".
I don't care if this marks me as the daggiest of all daggs, I love this song.

Hmmm, 1977, I was 10, probably wearing flared, embroidered jeans and cheese-cloth peasant blouses, how about you?

Bowl ...

... when I pointed to this bowl, in the gift shop at the Art Gallery of NSW, indicating that was the one I wanted to purchase and take home with me that very night, the woman said to me "promise you won't freak out if I tell you what it's modeled on?" So of course I looked carefully at it, and said, "a boob?". "Possibly," she replied, "or a buttock".
"Goodness," said I, clutching at my (imagined) pearls, "a remarkably poky-out buttock". The woman then confessed she wasn't actually sure, but she believed the big blue one, alongside, was modeled on a fecund woman about to do the wild howl at the moon thing. This, of course, did not freak me out one little bit, I've even tried it on! It's one of Samantha Robinson's many and fabulous watermelon bowls.

It's the Chinese New Year ...

... or Luna New Year AND Australia Day.
Burnt offerings are being made all across the country. Dumplings and moon cakes are being consumed with wild abandon.
Fingers crossed nobody gets too flag happy this year.

Conception ...

... I visited here the other day, typed in my birth date and learned the date my conception was on or about 15 September 1966. Which was a Thursday. That's probably more than I ever needed to know about my Mum & Dad's activities.
The same site also told me I can always find happiness at work on Friday. (This is a lie, Friday, 5pm is when the urgent stay requests come in, guaranteed.)
Amongst the myriad of useless information also provided was this, "Your birth tree is Hornbeam, the good taste. Of cool beauty, cares for its looks and condition, good taste, tends to egoism, makes life as comfortable as possible, leads reasonable, disciplined life, looks for kindness, an emotional partner and acknowledgement, dreams of unusual lovers, is seldom happy with her feelings, mistrusts most people, is never sure of its decisions, very conscientious."
And this, "the moon's phase on the day you were born was new", but I already knew that.

Possum came out at 2:30 this afternoon ....

... into the full bright day light. She's supposed to be nocturnal.
She did the usual, asked for something to eat, so she got a nectarine and a couple of tiny tomatoes.
But Google told me an adult possum out in the day means "something is wrong with the animal" requiring capture and assessment.
Guess what I did! Go on. Yep, I panicked, I called W.I.R.E.S and babbled about "my possum" and would someone come check her please.
Apparently it's probably the heat and I'm not to worry, since I could see no sign of injury.
But I'm keeping an eye on her.
Don't tell Mr Brown.

In other news, water on the moon, apparently. Googlemoon is the result.

Welcome to the 21st Century Australia

She did it.She probably shouldn't have at this time and so I worry about the likelihood of 'middle Australia' voting for a woman in the role come the election, but, oooooo how exciting!
She's a unionist, an atheist, she's not married (though has a significant other, what will he end up being called??) and she has no children.
I like her! Picky & cartoon thanks to First Dog on the Moon.

O how I wish we lived ...

... somewhere where my furry girls could roam freely, through fields of grass, bluebells and violets. By a cold dark sea*.
Being urban cats this is not to be, they only have the long thin backyard. My fears are of cars, dogs and people who don't like cats.
Being non-native beasites (like our good selves) I worry for the birds, lizards and sundry other beasts.
Go look at the We Three blog, trawl through the archives and revel in the beauty of pusscats wandering by the sea, climbing stones and sign posts, drinking from dew-filled pools.
The cats' companion, She (aka Jackie Morris) is an amazingly talented artist, go look at her stuff too. There be dragons and snow leopards and polar bears. And she's a fan of the moon. I may have a little blogging-celebrity crush.

* Of course, if I'm honest (and I do try to be), if we did live in such a place I'd be worried sick the furry girls would get eaten by foxes, or badgers, or fall into the sea, or get trampled by ponies.

This is gold ...

... it just says it all really. Oh, and here, it just gets better. Why am I not surprised?
And Fiddles sent me this, I'm so going to be staring up at the moon on Tuesday night, I may even howl a bit.

I commissioned an avatar ...

... from my favourite cartoonist, First Dog on the Moon.
It has arrived and I can't work out how to get in into Blogger!Bum.

All my Persephone Books have arrived ...

... I seriously need to stop buying any more books until I've read the "to-be-read" pile beside the bed (don't you just love my little-nut-brown-hares? I love them all the way to the moon, and back). A close up for the stickybeaks. The current read, with optional glass of fizzy water. I find fizzy water aids the reading parts of the brain. Yes, I know it's the third one in the series while the second is in the to be read pile. I fucked up, I mostly read at night, when I'm tired and easily confused.
