... This Chair, called Lyra, so badly it almost aches (only in red, obvy).I've wanted it for years. I think I first spotted on the back of a Vogue magazine. I've found somewhere that sells it. That somewhere is a little coy about the price, which makes me a little uneasy. You know the saying "if you have to ask the price, you can't afford one"? Well, I need to know the price, also, is it comfortable?
... but I scored a spiffy new pair of shorts today. I found them on the bedroom floor, where they should NOT have been left. So I tried them on. BINGO - perfect fit, perfect length (just past the knee bone), well-placed pockets and cute pin-striping. Since I had talked Mr Brown into them the other weekend anyway, he didn't seem to mind my appropriating them. This lead me to remembering my first boyfriend, and how I used to 'borrow' his Harrys* - some form of khaki work short with many pockets, named so because Harry Butler used to wear them. In the end I had to go out and buy my own pair, from an army disposal store, I wore those shorts for years. What is it about boy shorts? Why can't girl shorts be as comfortable? And so, while out in my new duds this song** came over the speakers in the fruit and veg emporium. So spiffy did I feel that I broke into a spontaneous little dance before the pre-sliced cheese display. I suspect I may have been channeling Jimmy Somerville, Mr Brown looked aghast and declared the short pants mine forever.
*I've googled like crazy but can't find a good, representative picture. ** An excellent chair-dancing tune imho.
... The band's Vampire Weekend, American I think. I've learned not to enquire too hard about these things, it only leads to disappointment. Enjoy, I think they are wonderful. Oxford Comma
… what was that, oh the week. It’s been scarily, frantically busy at work, I’ve been coming home exhausted and unwilling to look at another computer. But, I have to report a catch up with CAW for yumcha -with former work buddies and the Bear (who is remarkably bear like, if he'd been wearing red wellington boots he'd be Paddington - omif, they are both 50, and have you ever seen them both in the same room???) – during her in-and-out flying visit to this fair city. And scored an Alien Sex Fiend t-shirt, something I’ve wanted since the dark ages, when Rage first screened on the ABC.
The rest of the week has been a bit of a blur or sleep – Friday-night-after-work-drinkies had better be worth it this week let me tell you!
... you get a hot cross bunny! *teehehehehehehehehehehehehee* Speaking of which, I accidentally bought the world's most expensive hot cross buns yesterday. I was in a bit of a rush to get to a hair-trimming appointment and knew I had to have some buns for breakfast this morning, so I popped down to DJ's Food Hall, grabbed the closest buns from the cunningly placed bun stand and presented myself at the till to pay. "$10.50," quoth shopgirl (just like the Raven). "Oh, righto then," say I, grabbing an extra handful of golden dollars. They are Bowan Island Bakery buns (which means I believe Ms Cookie, that they would qualify as Local!), so I'm sure they will be very good indeed. Speaking of very good food, since my hair cutting thing went to 8pm and Mr Brown didn't fancy waiting for me to get home and cook before he could sate his hunger, he booked us in to Elio. So I got to have the stuffed zucchini flowers and the special pasta, torn pasta sheets with duck ragù, truffles and soft egg. My oh my, what a way to end a short working week!
Finding that Christopher Walken rendition of the Raven reminded me of this brilliant video, a chairdancing song if ever there was one!
... merry whatsits to one & all, be it xmas, the solstice (summer this end of the planet), Saturnalia, Yule, Hanukkah, Luciadagen, Kwanzaa, or whatever takes your fancy.
... so, remember I was wondering what I could buy, taking advantage to the relatively high exchange rate? So yes, I got a few books, complete with American spelling (blah) but a recent tour of YouTube blasted me into my past and I've ordered ever CD I could find for Dexys Midnight Runners. I've not been able to listen for, ooh about 100 years, as I've only records and no player. Now I'll have the CDs and be able to relive my youth, or something. Yes, yes, I know they sang Come on Eileen (and I loved it so there, most excellent chair dancing song). But they also did Geno, This is What She’s Like, My National Pride, and Listen to This. AND Celtic Soul Brothers (but I couldn't find a good vid). I did so love that band. Are they as good as I remember? Well, I thinks so and I'm getting ready to rekindle that little romance. It was my mum's birthday this week, so we are off for a visit (and a mum cooked lunch - blush). But I made her some small, buttery birthday thoughts, aka Langues de Chat.
... I love a song that makes you want to dance, mostly I'm a chair dancer, but this one had me bouncing around the room. No idea who, what, how long it's been about, just that it's Mika and called Grace Kelly. Enjoy.
Thanks to youtube. Click on the link and if you are old enough to remember the 1980 Moscow Olympics this will make you larf and larf and remember how much fun it was to be a kid and, if you are like me, dance and dance in your chair. Ha, I even remember the silly words we used to sing along to the tune - Moscow, Moscow, see the little Russian bear, dancing in his underwear, ah ha ha ha ha, hey!
