This reminded me that, when filling in a form for my new high school, in response to the question about how mail from the school should be addressed, my dad wrote "Admiral Mouse".
Or Captain or something else like that, something he was not!
Mail duly arrived, addressed as requested.

Lee, it is inherited too, my brother, who's name is NOT Bob, is known as Bob to his niece, because "Bob's your uncle!"
I had an uncle Bill, am 'honarary uncle', I was named after him!
Oh, I'd have chosen Wing Commander, for sure. Love all those choices - so boring in this country with just Mr., Mrs. or Ms. A sneaky way to discover one's gender.
My father always insisted I address letters to him as "Capt. Sonofabitch." Even after he retired from the navy. I stopped doing it some time ago, and I don't think he noticed.
