Persephone ...

... in stages.
First you get a sort of bulby knob. It's a lovely red, pomegranate red, funnily enough. Then the crepe-paper petals push through. I suspect, but don't know for sure, those yellow stamens become the ruby jewels that make the pomegranate worth the effort. Then, after the petals fall, looking a little like the leftovers from a Hindu wedding, the star appears. And then slowly, o so very slowly, behind the star, the swelling that will one day be a pomegranate, plumps out, bulges, grows.
It's all a bit sexy really, which freaks me out a bit I must say.

Lee - fingers are crossed they last long enough to grow into proper fruits! We are watching closely.
