I know it's terrible for Americans ....

... and Australian farmers & manufacturers and all that, but this strong Australian dollar thing is great for the average pen nerd.
The mark-up on pens in Australia is frankly a rip off, and with each Australian dollar getting at least 16 million of the US variety I can't help but stock up while the going's good.
Which is why this arrived on Friday. Beautiful box, no? But wait, I removed the lid to find ... a nice piece of paper. The paper peels away to reveal ... a pen! A matte black Pilot Vanishing Point pen to be precise. Apparently vacuum wrapped for safety and freshness. I was, as you can imagine, quite keen to get the pen out of it's fancy wrapping. So I grabbed a knife, for plastic slashing purposes, only to have Mr Brown reveal ... a flip opening doodad. Thank goodness he noticed, or I'd have ruined the fancy packing.
Let this be a lesson to the young folk out there. Patience, not haste. The nib comes out with the press of the clicky end, just like a ballpoint but o so much better! I think I'll fill it with Noodler's Ottoman Rose, the sultan's ink!

Love the retracting point! And the fancy packaging!

Clicky! Man, that is grand packaging. And, the Australian dollar is worth how many Yank Bucks now? I think I've got a jar of pennies somewhere.
Would you tell Mr Brown how much I respect (and need) him?

The black Dunhill "Bugatti" arrived just now. It still has ink in it from previous owner! Green. Ha. And the "broad" nib is SO not a problem. It's hardly medium; so relieved. I will have to write you letters.

Just realized there actually is a pen called Bugatti. I just thought mine resembled one. :)
