... artisan pasta to be sure, but o my did this total come as a bit of a shock at the end of my grocer shop the other week. What? You can't read it? Allow me to assist. Price of pasta. Total bill. Yes, that's right, total due $1280.07!!!
"O," I said, glancing at the till, (all calm and polite and yes, damnit, terribly middle class). "That's a little high". (All the while thinking 'fuck, what on earth did I buy?? Did Mr Brown select the cat poo coffee? Did I accidentally get a whole kilo of Jamón Ibérico instead of prosciutto? WTF??')
Turns out the nice, but not that fucking nice, pasta had scanned all wrong. I was being charged for a whole container load or somesuch.
All was fixed for me, with apologies, but it's lucky I'm not a frail little old lady with a heart condition.

Holy Cow, what a shock! Only you could have kept your cool on the outside while swearing like a fishwife inside! Kudos!
You should practice fainting.
Zoomie, I think my swears are more sailor than fishwife :)
Cookie, one day, if we get a bigger house, I'm going to buy myself a fancy velvet fainting couch!
you make me laugh! it is very good for my soul xx
S, WITH me, I trust, rather than AT me. xxx
WAY too funny. Not at the time, of course.
M, no, not at the time, but we were chuckling within 10 minutes!
Think of the size of the pan for a whole pallet of pasta! When you say artizan pasta, is it rolled between the thighs of virgin nuns like communion wafers are?
What made you check at the checkout? Don always waits till we get home, and then rants -- uselessly. themother
It could have kept the garden mushroom company...
Roo, not quite that artisan but almost.
Mum, I pay by card, the nice checkout person said that'll be .... WHAT???
E, indeed, pasta & mushrooms go very well together!
Communion wafers and virgin nuns? Oh dear I may just faint...
;o)
Chuck hands me the receipt as we're exiting the store. A while back I spotted a small error in an office supply place. The insanely convoluted way the clerk wanted to credit us back the overcharge, would have required us to come back and spend the credit in the store another day. I held my ground, as did she. Finally I said O.K. I want to return everything and have you re-ring it. She did!
Afterwards Chuck said he was amazed I had held my ground as he thinks he would have caved earlier.
Brava on being ever so calm!
;o)
