This is why ...

... the post weekly hunt&gather high just doesn't have the same zing anymore. Time was I'd unpack everything, put it all away, fill the fruit bowls, decant the rice, flours, lentils, beans, fill the veggie crisper and arrange "treats" on the shelves in the fridge. There'd be portioning and packing any meat too, but nothing too onerous.
But now, now I get to play butcher for Missy Pingu. It's this time of day I wish I could live with my conscience and just feed her goop from a tin. That's beef (grass fed) lamb (grass fed) and free-range chicken liver. Cutting up the liver is the worst bit, it's sort of .... jellyish, in a bad way. It also gets under the fingernails, rather as I imagine eye goop would. Which is why I don't poke folk in the eye very often *shudders*.
Mr Brown gets roped in too, because I'm too whimpy to hack the free-range chicken wings into baby-mouse size chunks with the chicken chopper. She needs the bones apparently. In the chicken chopper whacking process bits of it go flying. I'm seriously considering my sister's suggestion of Barf cat food, even thought it's minced, because it's got fine-ground bone in it and that would mean an end to wiping bits of chook from off the kitchen tiles each week.

We use to give the boys chicken wings chopped in three chunks. Wilbur loved them and would crunch the bones in delight. Merv was a wimp and would always sit out on a hunger strike, til we gave him something else. Wilbur is now nearly 18 and has all his teeth. Poor Mervie died three years ago aged 15...with very smelly breath!
Stay strong - it is good for her.

I know, I know but she does the Mervie thing with the chunked chook wings!

You could try semi-freezing the chicken livers before cutting them. A professor at my university studied slugs (snails without the shells) and found that the only way to dissect them was to freeze them first.
When I need to chop bones I use the picnic table outdoors as my counter. That way the flying gunk stays out of my kitchen!
Just a couple of suggestions to make life a little easier.

Give the kitty a hug from my three.

I guess I'd get the BARF. Though it doesn't seem technically raw, being packaged.

Susan, I;ll give that a go, great idea, thanks. Also, 1 hug administered as requested.
Zoomie, too much time on my hands, I suspect my dad would say. But it seems to be doing her some good, I've just realised we've not had a single vomit since the raw regimen began.
Cookie, I'll stick with the wings for a bit but that BARF stuff is looking good (well, you know what I mean).

Lee, I'd be a mad cat lady then, and Mr Brown would be very cross indeed - he set the 2 cat limit you know, not me ;)
