Raw Food Diet ...

... No, no, not me & Mr Brown, Pingu.
We are slowly "transitioning" little Ms Pingu to a raw food diet. We've always included raw meat as part of our cats' diets but we've also always fed kibble, (called crunchies at the Brown-Mouse House) and I've, possibly unreasonably, come to blame kibble for Small's demise.
Small's kidneys got her in the end, and although kidneys are the feline races's Achilles heel, I'm coming around to thinking her kidneys may have been healthier if they'd been kibble free. I'm damn sure she'd have died with a mouth full of teeth if she'd been fed bloody chunks of raw beast and chicken wings, bones in.
Miss Ping still has all her teeth and so far her gums look great. I'm going to make sure they stay that way.
So, slowly, slowly the kibble is drying up, high quality tinned stuff for breakfast and chunks of various meats, including some "organ meat" is being placed in her bowl for dinner.
The chunks are getting bigger and Mr Brown has agreed to take the meat cleaver to some lovely free-range chicken wings I bought this very afternoon.
Ping's not entirely sure about this. She inhaled the sirloin trimmings from our steak (pre-bbq) last night, and her shopping day treat of a bit of minced (ground) lamb went down almost before it hit the ground. But minced meat is a no no, not good for the toothypegs, and she's getting all snooty about the gravy beef I chunked up for her today.
Still, I'm pretty sure it will be all gone later tonight, because I'm not caving in, and she does love a full tummy.

tis what we fed Nutmeg til she went to the farm. BARF stands for biologically accurate raw food or bones and raw food.

It looks minced, was it minced or chunks?

We have tried to change our cats over to raw foods. They wouldn't eat anything raw! Ever!
Max turned his nose up every time something other than his kibble or canned dog food showed up on his plate. Grover sat in the raw food which stuck to his behind; which had to be trimmed and washed. Wolf tried the raw liver; then threw up on my pillow.
So they will stay on the presription low ash, pH balanced for kitties, kibble unto eternity.

Susan, our girls have always enjoyed raw meat, but only if chopped up tiny-wee. I'm moving Ping onto all raw, in big chewable chunks and with bones. So far so good, fingers crossed :)

A friend of ours feeds her poodle raw food. That dog has startlingly white teeth - like a dog movie star!

Is the link S left the one you tried to link to?
Good luck to Ping - and you and Mr. B. - with the entire transition!

Hmmm

If anyone can give me some clues as to how I can transition my cat to raw foods, heck even cooked foods, I would be most appreciative...

At this stage he is addicted to FancyFeast which seems to be made up of some wierd tofu like substance...

I can generally get him to eat maybe one meal a week of fish or mince, but apres the one meal the little bugger jsut leaves further offerings in the dish to dry out...

Now I do have a constant supply of kibble/dry food on hand, he's not uber fat but deffo has a tummy... perhaps I need to harden the heck up n just give him only a raw food option, no kibble, or alternative?

TIA and no stress if no reply I do understand this is not a cat welfare site :)))

Lee, the link S left is to a pre-packaged food provider she used when she had a puppy.
Winkinatcha - well, we've never had any trouble feeding cats raw meat. This may be because we have fancy pedigree cats whose breeders fed them raw stuff from the start. But because it's an effort we also fed tinned (fancy feast, yep) and kibble. The site I linked to has some hints & I've found hand feeding little bits, as if it's a treat, dropped from the kitchen bench has cats cruising the kitchen like furry sharks. Just keep at it and don't try to starve him into it, cats can get really sick sometimes when they just plain refuse to eat, the contrary bastards :)

Amigo, a pleasure. You may try tempting your cat with roast chicken too, it’s brought many a cat back from the brink, vets use it all the time you know :)
(really, it saved my Small after an operation you know)

I'm off topic, but the roast chicken mixed with a bit of rice is what we've used to get cats (and dogs) back on track after illness.

When our cats were first adopted they were both very ill with respiratory infections and stopped eating. Our vet recommended the stinkiest taste treats we could find such as sardines and tuna in oil. It did the trick.
