They never taught any of the good stuff when I went to Catholic school ...

... probably because they knew things like the miracle of the lactation would make us roll our eyes and possibly question the faith.
Honestly, it's a bit too much like some oddity fetish (I googled that for you but didn't go further) to take seriously as a momentous religious event.
Men, particularly the celibate variety, can be weird little monkeys.
This one by Alonso Cano.

Two things:
1. The whole Saint Bernard and the lactation thing is news to me.
2. I never know what to expect when I clock over to your blog!

Lee, I think the modern church does not like to speak of it's strange and slightly pervy past, it’s all a little embarrassing.
Uli, I got NOTHING good from there, except for some great oppression stories.
Cosy, wise move, I didn't either, just in case I mysteriously disappear tonight and the police search my computer history for clues!

Mouse, you are truly an education for me. I never learned that from my nuns, either. Reminds me of that wonderful scene in Steinbeck's "The Grapes of Wrath," where the woman who has lost her baby feeds the man who is starving, the ultimate act of generosity. Where do you find this stuff??

Zoomie, I dunno, I think this stuff finds me!
O, and it reminds me of the case where one woman fed the child of another woman (while bebe sitting) and got SUED!
Cookie, erk.
