Snark or not?

... I can't decide.
I was followed by someone on Twitter, I took a peek at their twitter page and found the person to be a business Tweeter. Some personal, foodie, non-business stuff sure, the the webpage link for this person took you to a business site.
I use TrueTwit, and this person went to the trouble of responding, but, like my profile over at Twitter says, I don't follow business tweets.
This person sent a @ message "I trust I checked out on truetwit, how about a re-follow??"
I sent what I hope was a polite response "you did, but I don't follow business twitter-ers, sorry". I don't think this was rude, it was honest, told her why I wasn't following and offered an apology.
I got this response, "fair enough, I don't usually follow people unless they post interesting links or are into food! Turning off TweetSurge now..."
Now, I remember the hell that was high school, and the Internet and Twitter and suchlike can be a bit like high school, the rejection, the clever cruelty. So I popped over to the person's Twitter page, thinking about offering a more detailed explanation as to why I wasn't following.
I saw this response to someone else, "learning about following etiquette and spam. I followed you cause you're a foodie, hoped my food tweets could interest you too!" and then this tweet, "TweetSurge calls itself a social experiment, I have got more followers, but found myself to be following a lot of the wrong twitterers..."
So, my question is, did I hurt this person's feelings? Or, is she having a bit of a snark?
Edited to add - Turns out "TweetSurge.com is a Twitter Marketing Application that helps you target & build your niche market on Twitter", so I'm feeling a little less terrible.

Weird!
You just Tweeted that your "DM box is so full of spammer names I can't find my Tweaple!"
Maybe I have my settings toggled differently on Twitter, but I can't get or send Direct Messages (DMs) unless there is mutual following.

The @PinkGranite comments I get are just in response to something I've Tweeted. I get followed by lots of folks - business, political, religious, news outlets, you name it. I check my followers and immediately block the porn profferers and some of the stranger business ones. Because I Tweet so many political "calls for action" I let the rest of the followers follow me on the off chance that my liberal bias might just rub off on them! I can dream can't I?

But I have never had an exchange such as the one you posted about. I'd ignore it and move on. There are a bazillion folks on Twitter for nearly as many reasons! If she was using a marketing app, then she's in business.

Pause...

O.K. I just did some detective work and looked at her Twitter page. She replied to someone else right after you with the identical response. Reading her profile, she is in business and using food to "casually" expand her contacts for that business. Don't sweat it!

By the way, since you (and George) got me into Twitter I love it! I hate FaceBook because it is a recreation of all that sucked pond water about high school!

Keep on Tweeting!

Yeah, don't worry about it. It sounds like she's trying to build a certain Twitter following and the tool she was using wasn't working the way shee needed it to. Nothing personal.

I guess I don't know how it works. I get a new follower every day or so, and don't do a thing to block them. I just don't follow them in return. Think that's safe?
So, nothing personal, ever. I think.

Well good, the more I think about it and the more I look at it, I'm inclined to agree, she WAS a business person looking to build her profile, and I'm not out to help folk to that so. Feeling most fine & dandy.
Lee, I do block all the porn span, but their names stay in the DM thing, clogging it to pointless uslessness!

Hi -
Glad you're feeling more satisfied with it all.

I just checked my DM drop down list and only the mutual followers (like you, Ronnie etc.) are in mine.

I wonder if you can toggle something somewhere?

Lee, I'm exploring possibilities, I can only see people I DON'T follow in there :(
