I did scandalously little San Fran research and if we'd done the Mr Toad's Tour (totally brilliant and highly recommended btw) on our first afternoon we'd have had a much better idea of what was on offer and where to go. Heaps, loads, it would require almost as long as we spent in New York really.
The morning began crow spotting while waiting for the toad mobile to be ready. Brilliant birds crows, so clever too.
This is why I could not live in San Francisco, the hills, they are major and all over the place. I hate walking up hills.
Flying books. And the words that fall from them. Charming.
Apparently a squid appears in the window each morning, and by the end of the day has lost all his tentacles.
Although I say I could not live in such a hilly town. I could possibly be tempted, if I could live in a pretty house.

Because I love pretty houses.
And if you throw in a turret, I'm there with bells on.
O, and a lovely iron lace balcony too.
I loved this guy, and there's no mistaking his gender.
There may not be as many green open spaces and parks as New York, but San Francisco is not at all shabby in this department.
And the views aren't half bad either.
I guess another visit is in order really.
We had to be out of the hotel by 2pm and the plane didn't leave until 11ish, so we left the bags at the hotel lockup and headed back down to the Ferry Building for lunch. We had a yen for some more oysters - who'd ever have thought I'd become such a fan? Mr Brown is thrilled, "we can just order a dozen to start anytime now". Hmm, maybe.
The Hog Island place had queues going out the doors, so we settled for next door, and ate very well indeed. We wandered through the book shop where Mr Brown bought a book about a fruit company. We had some more coffee, the very best we had on the whole trip by far (they supply Chez Panisse you know). And we had a couple of little dainty cakes.
We shall not speak of the trip home, it was horrible but that was to be expected. Still, we got home safe and sound. My parents kept their promise, to keep my Small going until we got back. They believe she'll outlast us all. I'm just thrilled I get to squeeze the old bad go bones for a while longer.
Ping, looked at her toy, looked at me, and wandered off. I should have known.
I put out food for the possum & her bebe, came inside, looked out the window and ... she'd been and gone. I'll catch them tonight I'm sure.

Yay for Small!
Yay for parents who took care of Small!
Despite your protestations, your photos show many of the notable San Francisco landmarks. So you seem to have managed to do a good whirlwind tour even without all the research.

P.S. Love the books and the words below.
O.K. You can start your "Next Time We're In San Francisco" list with this:

It should prove a good adjunct to Mr. Toad's Tours!

Ooops
That's They're not There!
O MY - we SAW the Zeplin!! Just had no idea we could pay to be on it! Next time indeed, this will excite Mr Brown no end!
What a fun tour of our city. We specialize in pretty houses, don't we? I had not seen the books and words - where is that? I'd love to go visit - what a charming idea! Glad you had a good last day and can't wait for your return.
Zoomie, the books are at the NW corner of Broadway where Grant and Columbus Streets intersect. I'm adding a link for some info about the art & artist.
