... about 6AM*, Mr Brown rolls over and says, "can you taste dust?"
Hmm, I can. I shuffle to the window and lift the curtain, it looks like the end of the world. Outside is bright orange. It's a dust storm, some bastards' farms are blowing all over Sydney.
"Jeebers Mouse, close the window".
A dash to the other end of the house, to see if any other windows were left open, reveals the back yard, and sky, equally orange and end of worldy. The thrill and excitement is over, now all I can think of is the dusting I'll have to do later. I hate dusting.
* I NOES, so early. On the upside it means Mr Brown can make coffee before he pootles off to work.

I was hoping you and rupert would be up to take some pictures of the orange dawn..tar everso. Oh, and welcome home xx
If only I'd been up earlier, it was RED apparently.
O, & tar!
Holy cow, what a sight! I'm getting the impression that Australian soil is iron-rich!
Lovely idea Zoomie, and we do have loads of lovely red dirt but I'm afraid science says particles in the air scatters the red light of the spectrum, and that's why it looks red.
Damn, it's amazing what the brain has stored away from high school - ask me about the typical diet of a medieval peasant, go on ;)
cough, cough...the dust has hit Brisbane, I was out and I had nappies on the line!!
Yowza!
Great pics from you and your trusty Rupert.
Love your science flashback...
;o)

S - yes, the dust isn't doing poor old Small's elderly lungs any good.
Lee - Rupert's a doll, isn't he?
Zoomie, just so you know, the dust WAS red. Every duster I wipe over a surface comes up pink!
It looks as Hawaiian soil would if it blew around - except Hawaiian soil is even redder. I kinda miss the stained socks...
Unbelievable. (I hate dusting too. I can stretch it out for years.) (Well, not in Sydney after a duststorm, I guess. I might try to get away with it though.)
I know it's a pain but hell these pics are beautiful!!! Ronnie xx
