O Mrs Possum ...

... What DO you have in your pocketses?
I've noticed a dark mark on Mrs Possum's tum lately, getting darker and wider. That, along with the bulging in the pouchular region, the bulging that wriggled now and again, I was beginning to nurse a sneaking suspicion that Mrs Possum may be in a delicate condition.
And I just knew I'd see nothing, go on holiday and come home to my mum or dad regaling me with tales of the first bebe poss poss sighting. It was almost enough to convince me overseas travel was a very bad idea indeed, almost.But tonight, that dark mark just opened up and revealed a tiny wee bebe*. Not old enough to poke a head out, but fully furred and with the cutest wee muzzle I ever did see. Bloody Garry the Dog next door keeps barking, it makes Mrs Possum nervous.And zip, all closed up. Magic isn't it?



Just in case anyone wants to know, the a bebe poss, called a joey, is born after about 17 days gestation. They have no fur and look a bit like damp jelly beans with legs. They crawl up to the pouch, fuse onto a nipple and grow some more, about 4 to 5 months. Then they travel about on mum's back for another month or so before she tells them to sling their hook.
