Small was already the $6 million cat ...

... with all her health "issues". I've stopped counting, she's worth it.
Mr Brown just got home with the pills and renal diet stuff from the vet.
The high-blood-pressure (yes, that's right) pills, tiny white jobbies, she get's 1/8th once a day. Jeebers, 1/2 we can do, 1/4 shouldn't be too hard but 1/8! You'd think they'd just make smaller bloody pills.
Grumble, grumble - off I go to pill the cat.

I had a million dollar cat once, they ARE worth it, poor things.

While it is responsible to be certain you can afford to properly care for a pet prior to making the commitment, it's equally important to never tally up the full cost once they've come to live with you! ;o)

If I could be sure I wouldn't be declared certifiably crazy, I'd tell you how much we spent on a little stray cat we named Rory who lived with us just one crushingly short week.

I agree, the 1/8 pill sounds impossible. Sometimes, with dog medications, our vet has let us know that a human prescription medicine is available. He then writes a 'script for us to take to our regular pharmacy. It's a little odd the first time you walk in and say "This is for my dog Paddy"!

Good luck with it all!

Maybe you could hide such a tiny pill in just a small teaspoon of her food and feed her that first, then the rest of the meal once the pill has gone down? That worked with one of my cats but the other was wise to me and refused the "tainted" spoonful even when she was quite hungry.

Stomper - of course they are, no question.
Lee - I'd have guessed this about you - no point in a tally, and I'd love to hear about Rory. We get Small's asthma inhaler from the people chemist, she has her own entry at the chemist, Small Mouse (cat), it says.
Zoomie, we grind the pill bit into a powder, mix it with butter (or other yummy) and wipe it on her whisker pad, licky, lick, it's gone. We'd just forgotten - first pill for a while.
My mum's cats used to eat the "tainted" meal, leave the room and THEN spit out the pill.

Yeah, pilling a cat is easier said than done. Go Small! Missy is 18 and getting old. I of course will spend whatever I need to spend, but I also don't like to drag things out for them. At a certain point, it's not a good life for them anymore, and then it's time to let go. Not there yet, though.

E - I know what you mean. We've decided to draw the line at a kidney transplant, not at her age.

Hi DMM -
Thanks for the tip about grinding, blending and applying - brilliant!

e is right. There is a tipping point, a moment when you just know. They tell you - especially after so many long years of love and companionship together.

Here's hoping Small's moment is very far away...

Lee - actually Ms Small is heading for a kick in the bum, she is being very difficult about eating right - she pushed poor Ping away and stole her dinner - it's usually the other way around.
Mr Brown thinks she's doing much better, now she's had a whole 1/4 of a pill, I hope he's right.

Oh Geez!
When Cassie became ill with her thyroid problem, her eating habits were so erratic that Abby was getting two meals! We had to begin feeding them in separate rooms - something our sainted vet had recommended but which we had resisted.
Good luck...

Lee, we moved Ping's dinner up onto one of the platforms of her climbing thing, too high for Ms Smally now.
