Catching up ...

... some things I've tweeted about but not blogged about because, well, the whole downloading of photos has become such a song and dance, it rarely gets done anymore. Roll on new camera!
So, I mentioned a ridiculously big spend on mushrooms on Thursday. We'd not done a food shop last weekend, what with Mr Brown and the ute going away sailing at Batemans Bay and all, dinners were a bit of a forage and make do affair. I mean, we were forced to go to Coast for dinner on Wednesday, it was a horrific time.
Anyway, where was I? O, yes. So, on Thursday, since I knew we had some frozen tortellini I figured I'd pop down to DJ's Food Hall and grab a few 'shrooms for a sauce. When I got there I was overwhelmed but the variety of wonderful, exotic 'shrooms and went a little crazy. Some of the buggers were $80 a kilo! I only got 3 or 4 of those particular lovelies. Still, here's the bounty. And a mighty accompaniment to pasta they made too (with just butter, olive oil, garlic, thyme, rosemary, chives and a dash of cream added at the end, for those who need to know).
I also made a mighty chicken, leek and pancetta pie. Look at how that pastry (home made) gleams (egg yolk wash!).
And finally, the mystery painting delivered to our door, the artist is ungooglable it seems. Turns out it was a gift for a friend of Mr Brown. A Sydney Bachelor, who has (I believe) a rather unsavory attitude to women. Turns out he spent a weekend of nookie with a young lady, visited a gallery with her, and admired a painting. So, a little while later she bought it for him, rang for a delivery address and he gave her ours.Hmmmm, she'd better not turn up on the doorstep looking for the bugger. I'll point her in the right direction, see if I don't.

1. Mushrooms = fabulous!
2. Chicken, Leek & Pancetta Pie = equally fabulous!
3. Mystery painting = NOT fabulous!!! I cannot believe the lengths some folks will go to in order to dodge someone! Based on this story alone, the man is a cad and the painting purchaser perhaps dodged a bullet! Painting itself is interesting. Would it fit in better with the neighboring fish family's decor?

Lee, o, he’s a cad alright. That’s what I meant when I called him a ‘Sydney bachelor’, it was no compliment, believe me. It gets worse. A day or 2 later there was an envelope addressed to some person (can’t remember the name) at our address. It wasn’t the name of the fellow who lived here before us, Mr Brown didn’t recognise the name. I looked at the return address, read it out (a foreign country). “O” said Mr Brown, “that must be for ***** ” and tweaked it from my fingers. I said something very uncomplimentary about the fellow and warned Mr Brown that it had better not happen again or there’d be some eye poking going on.
The mushrooms are fab aren't they?

For mushrooms you'll have to wait until autumn I'm afraid, or get the ordinary kind. Which are fine, just not fabulariffic!

Shrooms - look fab and the pasta dish sounded just right

The pie made my mouth water!

Please tell me you've managed to smash the picture over the fellows head???????

Roo, I won't damage the painting, someone put some effort into it afterall but I do want it out of the house. The Brown Mouse House is NOT a storage shed for cads.
