... and also a bad wife.
So, at lunchtime I was wandering down in the direction of the nice bagel place, with the intention of getting one of those smoked salmon jobbies and I wandered past Baubridge & Kay, noticing some sort of sale was going on. It can't hurt to have a look, I thought, so I did.
Ooo, 3 lovely new shirts for the cooler weather for me. And I thought to myself, if I get a couple for Mr Brown, then it won't look so bad. So I go grabbed a couple for him.
"Are you sure he's a size ##?" asked the uber posh, tall Sydney-girl shop girl*.
"O, yes, quite sure," said I.
I get back to the office, ring Mr Brown to show him what a terribly good wife I am (and to make up for the harsh words that were said at the drop off this AM).
"But I'm a size ##," said he.
O, almost 16 years married, 20 years "an item" and I'm 2 sizes off.
So I schlep back, head hung low in shame, to see if a swap of sale items was a possibility. Yes, it was, and I am redeemed.
BUT, on the way out I passed the home wares bit, o those beautiful cushions and 1/2 price!
I'll post pictures tomorrow.
* This is something I'd not have managed years ago, I've never been good with shopgirls, the frighten me. And even today I asked 3 blokes I worked with if the shirts were their size and would have handed them over if they had been.

Well done! I knew you could do it. Can't let those shopgirls freak you out. You gotta freak them out. A bit. I hope you wore killer heels.
hehehehe you are too funny ;0) All's well that ends well so they say x
Well done! You must come visit us in the US for a while, you would so get over this thing w/ shopgirls. Here, it's the land of the customer, so swaps and returns are quite normal. But sometimes people demand such crazy stuff that it's actually funny to watch, and then you don't feel nearly as awkward by comparison.
It's not the in-person shopgirls who freak me out but over the phone... that's hard!
M - I was wearing nice teal heels, but not killer - most excellent velvet skirt though.
Ronnie, indeedy, well spent.
E - I plan to, in September. I'm recalling CAW's retail stories as I type!
Zoomie, I'm actually quite brave with the sales callers, cut them off with a no thank you - and we are done!
Nice cushions - I'd forgotten about those fab sofas!
I'm the opposite in shops, I think because I worked for years in hospitality, when I am in a store looking at shirts and suits especially, quite often people ask me if I can ask an assistant to help them. I then patiently explain I'm not a manager/member of staff. I got my own back once though, with a friend who worked on furnishing fabrics, by walking smartly up to her and in a loud voice declaring " Excuse me young lady, where can I get felt" - she's never forgiven me - Ha ;o)
Roo, hehehee - the cushions are made from tie silk, the same fabric their ties are made from, it's wonderful.
They sell it by the yard too, I may well have to have my mum whip soemthing up for me!
