... my dad was a sailor, a Navy sailor, not a yachty like Mr Brown.
One of the dishes he says he ate a lot of, in the mess, was "Train Smash" a sort of melange of veg, mostly tomatoes, all baked and crispy with cheese on top.
Well, last night Mr Brown & I ate a fancified Train Smash, Red Capsicum, Tomato & Goat Cheese Gratin, I filched the recipie from the March 2009 edition of Delicious Magazine (yes, I receive magazines from the future).
We highly recommend it.

Thanks for the recipe link to the annex!
I make something quite similar and it's tasty as well as comforting. Now it has a new name!
;o)
- Lee
I'd like that on a slice of toast.
Lee, the Navy is responsible for some very colourful names.
Cookie - if only there were leftovers.
Cookiecrumb and I are both Navy juniors, too. I've never had Train Smash, however, just very bad coffee and big steaks on my Dad's ships. I'll have to try this next time I'm feeling adventurous.
Zoomie, I'm sure the US Navy has some very colourful names for things too - do give it a go, it was delish!
