Return of a seafaring hero ...

... many, many years ago, way back in the mists of time, Mr Brown had been away on one of his sailing jaunts and I wanted to do something special to celebrate his return from the sea. I was also a restaurant reviewer at the time, going by the name Romany Moore*, and thought to kill two birds with one stone.
And so I booked us in for a fishy feast at an establishment we'd never patronised before, probably because it was on the dark and unpleasant north-side of town (the polar opposite [hehehe] to the south side, where we lived). I won't name the establishment, but fishing and village were in the title.
Anywhoo, it was vile, possibly the worst meal we ever ate together** The tablecloth was dirty, glasses smeared and that was before the food arrived. Horrors, shudderingly ghastly. Fish - overcooked. Sauces - floury, glutenous, congealed. Salads - limp, pathetically sad. Needless to say, we did not finish our dishes and went home, saddened, wiser creatures.
The review? Well I'm glad to report, it closed the place down.
And so last night, we played it safe and went to that good old standby, Grappa. And it didn't let us down.

*Why Romany Moore? - Why not?
** No, wait, that was somewhere else, another story for another time.
