I'm thinking some long nose pliers might do the trick. If you could find some with nice rounded "grippy things", you could use those to help make the round pieces nice and round.
Hi DMM - Oh how I wish I had taken the time to whip out my tablet to draw the little diagram! It looks as if I had too much to drink or was in need of strong drink! LOL!
I agree with UK - what I know as needle nose pliers should do the trick. And I imagine different varieties/brands of large paper clips would behave differently from one another. None should be too tough on your tender fingers.
Have you seen the cheery stripey paper clips? Then you could make teeny tiny eyeglasses that look like the blue and white striped cats' eye glasses I wore as a child! ;o) - Lee
