... can anyone tell me how to get a colour that's NOT one of blogger's choices?

I get my colours from this website:
http://www.december.com/html/spec/color.html

For the specific colour you want, you need the #Number combination in your html code.

Thanks Lailaa, I've got the #code ok, it was getting the new blogger layout thingy to accept it. Worked it out though, I've got to edit the HTML code, not the layout page! Bingo.
