Hey hey - why not just buy a dvd player with a hard drive, ours is brill, and we can record masses of tv, loads of channels at once etc etc, Tivo's came and went over here about a year or so ago. - they are brill, so don't let this put you off, it's just that there are so many other options on the market ;o)

Ooh, you're just getting Tivo? OMG you'll love it!! I love my Tivo, and want to marry it. Sad, but true. It falls under the umbrella of DVR (digital video recording), which satellite companies have too. But tivo can be used w/ regular cable or rabbit ears or whatever. I love my tivo.

Roo I think what attracts me is you can set recordings and be done with it and it will let me have digital tv (no, we haven't got a box yet).
E - I suspect I will love it too, but first I have to get it past Big Bad Brown!

Pull one out from the back of the wardrobe and exclaim "what, this old thing, it's been in here ages" - honest, it works ;o)

We have a DVR through our cable TV service and ADORE it! Super easy to use. Love being able to pause and rewind live shows! Can record two things at once, while playing something off the recorded list.
Just wish it cost less, but I can't imagine going back to VCRs full time.

Roo's suggestion makes me think of a gal I used to work with. She loved to shop and her husband didn't love that about her. Her solution? When she would buy new clothes, she would swing by the dry cleaners and have them clip the tags and press the item. Then she would bring them in the house as dry cleaning! "Oh Honey, this old thing????"
;o)

Ha - I'm lucky Mr Brown rarely comments on my spending, it's money I earn and I can always respond with "and what about your BOAT?!!"

We missed a brand new episode of the Simpsons tonight, I got to say "if we had tivo we could be watching that!" I may win yet!

Do stores have a return policy? Cos a lot of stores here have a 100% satisfaction guarantee and you can return things. So if that's an option, you can always say that you'll try it for the 30 days or whatever, and if Mr. Brown doesn't like it, you'll return it. He, being a man, will totally dig it and will become the King of Tivo in no time, and voila, Bob's your uncle.

E - I've peppered Mr B with emails with links about tivo, and suggested he have a little look - I think I'll win this one!
