... has become a regular scream in the AM at the Brown-Mouse House.
Ants keep invading the end room, to steal the girl's food.
I started with the be-nice-and-friendly version of control, a wee bowl of honey outside. But the bastards prefer cat food.
So next was poison and traps, which I don't like to do because it might also make the furry girl sick. That only lasted a day or so until the evil shits were back, crawling all through the girls' foods.
So now the girls' little bowls sit in much bigger bowls which are full of water. Which appears to have thwarted the bastards - *fingers crossed*
And on that cheery note ...

EEEEEEK!
and ICK!
Shuddering now...
Nar, not shitty just insect-y. The problem seems fixed now, with the water thing which has got to be better than paying some bloke to spray toxic stuff all over the place. Still, just seeing them does make me clench with rage ;)
Ants are my nemesis, too, and they come every year at Christmas time, here. I have found that sprinkling baby powder (on light colored surfaces) or cinnamon (on darker surfaces)at the entrances to the house (doors, windows, wherever the little buggers come in) really goes a long way to discouraging them and it's not toxic to us or the kitties. Give it a try!
ARGH, BARSTARDS! have you tried spreading talcum powder on their trail? it fucks up their wee radar and they lose their way; then they eventually just all go home b/c they get so lost they can't find the food source.
zoomie's cinnamon suggestion is a blinder also. ive tried it, it works.
Tar ladies, for the talk & cinnamon suggestions, even if it doesn't work at least the end room will smell lovely.
Wow, I'd never heard of the powder or the cinnamon. Thanks for the tips, we get ants sometimes in summer.
