Yesterday morning ...

… I opened the lounge-room door and was greeted by an overpowering pong, cat wee.
Search as I might I could not locate the spot. I cleared out the girls’ tray, hoping it had just been a particularly hot night, and they drank more than usual. But no, the smell persisted.
Mr Brown got up. He noticed. He said horrid things to the furry girls, but still we could not find the spot.
Then it clicked, I’d chopped up a lot of basil the night before and the stalks and stuff were in the bowl ready to go out to the compost bin. It was removed and so was the smell.
Isn’t if funny how something that smells as fabulous a fresh basil can smell so nasty once wilted!
And also, I've just done all my xmas shopping at Oxfam Unwrapped, perhaps you should too.

Poor kitty girls, blamed for the smell. I'm guilty of that too, occasionally there will a suspicious smell and I think it's them. It never is. Though Maliboo used to pee on my bed when she was little. Actually, she used to pee on my down comforter. Once I stopped using down, she stopped peeing.

we have a certain type of floor cloth that smell exactly like that when left wet for a couple of days. I was really bewildered before I figured it out, we don+t have any cats and never have had any. just a raging daog

It's already Nov. 21 where you are. I'm still slipping though the 20th here.
Anyway. Basil smells like cat pong? And your cat is named Ping?
Culpret. Case solved.
Oh.
Not.

oh that's too funny! when i deco'ed the house with red berries for halloween i didn't know they were noxious.
i put handfuls of the berries in water in 2 vases, 4 jars, 4 bowls, and 3 glasses and stuck them in every room, on every bench, everywhere. they were very pretty.
but one night - when they'd been out for about 3 days - B asked me if i had let loose an airy indiscretion. i said "no!" he didn't belive me. but it was quite true.
then i walked into the kitchen and caught a whiff of a sulphuric type stinkie.
bingo. it was the berries. i threw the berries out the next morning but the vases, jars and glasses are still outside. they've been outside for 2 weeks now, waiting for the pong to go.

Yes, poor girls being blamed when they were 100% innocent - I feel terrible. The only time we've ever had an accident of that type was when I forgot the tray and Small let me know by coming into the bedroom and piddling on the newspaper on the floor - even when being bad she was good.

Basil !?!??

I can't belive that one. Perhaps they peed on the stalks.

Before poor Hamlyn died, we had wee smells galore, which we blamed on Bob. It was Ham. He sprayed stereo speakers once, which we had to chuck. Disgusting.

He was only trying to tell us his kidneys were failing him though :(

On an entirely different note, did you know to some people, coriander ( droOoOOol ) tastes like soap ?

True.

It absolutely is the basil, true, we've noticed it before - once it turns it's horrid.
My mum had a cat, Moof, who used to spray everywhere, it drove us mad.
Oh, and I'm glad I'm not one of those soap people, that would be terrible!
