I read somewhere today ...

... Salon.com I think, that atheists are one of America's most reviled subcultures. Reviled? That's a little strong isn't it? I'd assumed it would be communists or paedophiles. Atheists are such nice people.

Although religion is YUGE over there. I remember being very quiet and very scared in some of my touchier subjects, like "American Politics"

You just don't get that same kind of gun-toting, really angry passion with Liberal and Labour, IMO...

And God featured A LOT.

Yers, I rather like our cynical & generally laid back attitude to politics - we get worked up but not too much! God is sneaking in a bit though, which I find worrysome.

reviled? oh it's definitely appropriate over here. i cannot count the number of religious zealots who have tried to convert me to one faith or another.
when they learn i've no interest in religion, the conversation gets very heated. they try harder. i resist harder.
