Big Kitty ...

... the comrades & I just watched the USS Kitty Hawk sail into the harbour (from the office window). My goodness that's a big boat. This means the streets and shops of Sydney are going to be chockablock with sailors in white, saying Mam' and asking for directions. Best pop a little map in the handbag because I'm quite hopeless directions-wise.

Will that be fun for you, having the US Navy in your town? I'm a navy kid, and I think sailors are generally stupid. But maybe I just got that impression from my dad (the officer), who wanted to keep me from being unreasonably impregnated.
I guess I would say, be nice to them. Thanks!

I don't think they'll be in uniform... something about keeping a low profile and not being kidnap targets for the loony Islamists.

Hey Cookie, I'm a Navy brat too! How about that.
Cors I'll be nice, but I suspect they are going to be more interested in the younger, more single Sydney girlies :)
Mr Bear, I've bumped into lots, no uniforms but you can't miss those accents!

When they're in NY (and SF) we call it Fleet Week. And they do wear their uniforms around town. I guess there's a lot more Americans in NY and SF than in Sydney so maybe less likelihood of being the ones who are kidnapped?

I was in NY for Fleet Week a couple of years ago, by chance, and I got a tour of an aircraft carrier. Well, lots of people did, but I was on it. The tour that is.
