I love our blue banded bees (even if they do burrow between the bricks).
I've not yet caught them doing the hanging from a string thing but I'm bound to one of these days.

the blue banded bees are the bees knees of all bees :)
ooh they are the best. They are native & buzz pollinaters, they hibernate in sandstone (or my walls) and sleep in rows on plants like little jewels.
They look scary !!
And are huge and waspish ?
No not scary, sweet natured wee poppets, about the size of a well trimmed pinky fingernail, and stingless (i think). When I bother them in their sleep they wave their little legs at me as if to say - bugger orf!
