... that describes today. Also hazy and grey. From my air-conditioned office it looked like a cold grey day, outside it was 38 degrees - that's horridly hot. The hazy is from all the bushfires in the mountains. We had to sleep with the doors & windows closed to keep the smell of burning gum tree out.
I was not looking forward to the walk home up the hill this evening, but the southerly change kicked in just as I left work so it was quite cool in the end.
Once home I noticed my face was covered in soot smoots and the front door step is covered in soot too.
Sigh, summer's here alright.

Oooooh dear. Does the air smell smokey too, like BBQ'd gums? The bushfires worry me every summer. I once sat on a friend's roof in the mountains while he hosed it down .. waiting for the fire to come and engulf the joint. We could see it coming over the hill - it didn't arrive, thankfully, but it was rather nerve-wracking. Soot floated in the air for days. My car was like a soot carpet.
Yes the smell is pervasive - cooking gum trees is what it is.
I do recall one xmas when we left the house with the windows open for the breeze and returned to rooms covered in ash - it was a horror to clean up - not as bad as for others though!
oh crumbs. my folks once left all the doors & windows in our house open while we went away for 2 wks over the chrissie hols years ago (they did it so someone could come & clean our house - but the cleaner never showed - which we didnt know) -- a dust storm swept thru & when we got back, every corner of the house was covered in thick red dust. oopsoh!
