... Ok, so this is what Sheik Taj el-Din al Hilaly actually said (thanks to SMH) - "Those atheists, people of the book (Christians and Jews), where will they end up? In Surfers Paradise? But when it comes to adultery, it's 90 per cent the women's responsibility. Why? Because a woman possesses the weapon of seduction. It is she who takes off her clothes, shortens them, flirts, puts on make-up and powder and takes to the streets, God protect us, dallying. It's she who shortens, raises and lowers. Then you get a judge, who has no mercy, and he gives you 65 years.
But when it comes to this disaster, who started it? In his literature, scholar al-Rafihi says: If I came across a rape crime, kidnap and violation of honour I would discipline the man and order that the woman be arrested and jailed for life.

If you take uncovered meat and put it on the street, on the pavement, in a garden, in a park or in the backyard, without a cover and the cats eat it, is it the fault of the cat or the uncovered meat? The uncovered meat is the problem.
If the meat was covered, the cats wouldn't roam around it. If the meat is inside the fridge, they won't get it.
If the woman is in her boudoir, in her house and if she's wearing the veil and if she shows modesty, disasters don't happen ...

And try as I might I just can't see how these words can be written off with the claim that he was "just quoting a scholar". It clearly isn't that, there's a lot of his words in there.
And I cannot see how he can claim his words were "taken out of context". The context was a sermon, given to impressionable and often angry young men, and that is exactly why his words are so dangerous.
And, being honest, I find it particulary revolting that he lays the blame for violent hate crimes (because that is what rape is, a crime of fear & hate) at the feet of the victim.
Basically, he's saying that if women covered up and stayed at home they'd be safe. Of course we'd be safe. We'd also be bored witless, unfit, unhealthy, unemployed, unfulfilled and unhappy, but unraped (because husbands don't rape wives ... do they?)
Of course I could turn the argument around and say that if men stayed home ... (fill in the gaps yourself). But that's not what the Sheik wants is it?
I could go on and on and ask why he doesn't preach for men to exercise a little self control? But I won't, there's no point and I'm too angry.
